A lot of times our trees don't get the proper nutrients they need. Depending on the type of tree you have, you may or may not require feeding. However, the main problem we usually have is lack of water available to the tree and usually fertilizing problems can be solved by simply watering properly. Most of our soils have adequate nutrients for the tree to uptake. These nutrients can not be readily absorbed without water (yes, our trees do need to be fertilized from time to time, however lack of proper watering is usually the biggest culprit of tree failure).

Usually Nate prefers not to remove the tops of trees. However, sometimes it is necessary. Trees are often planted in bad spots and need to be made safer. Some trees tend to get a little bit to tall. With height sometimes trees can become dangerous if not developed properly. There is a definite art to weight reduction and is something that is better left to the pros to take care of.

Although topping seems to mean the same thing as height reduction, there are subtle differences. The difference is that a topped tree will lead to decay and weak new stem attachment, leading to future failure potential.

Contrary to what some people may say, there are really only a couple of ways to properly get rid of mistletoe. Nate will usually try to cut the infected limb out of the tree. If this is not possible, then he will wrap the infected portion of the tree with black plastic. This will not only suffocate the mistletoe, it will block the sunlight which will make it unable to grow.

Pruning ornamentals is one of Nate's favorite past-times.There are many reasons to prune; one reason might be for looks, while another could very well be for the health of the tree. Nate can help turn any of your delicate/ ornamental trees into a focal point of your landscape!
